((Hey alll,
I've been wondering. With Fallout: New Vegas out, and having visited Seneca, and having read through some of the back story again, and having watched some spagetti westerns, and watching a spot of Trigun, a few questions popped into my head. In FNV, you can play a new card game called "Caravan". At Seneca, I had a chance to play some low-stakes Texas Hold 'em, and Caribean. In the westerns and Trigun, you see people huddled around tables playing dice or cards.
So, while reading some of the backstory, I did enjoy the scope of some of the larger "game-room" scenes Vanessa had. And, I noticed in the Royals section, we have some card sharks like Johnny Six-Teeth, and Dr. Horton.
Anyway, a couple of gaming questions popped into my head. In 1890, what sorts of card games / casino games actually were available? Craps? Pachinko? Blackjack? Three-card monty? Roulette?
What were the dice made of? I'm thinking Ivory, but what about wood or ceramic?
How expensive would it have been to actually get a deck of cards? Did the cards have the numbers and symbols, or just the symbols?
Were these sorts of games usually for men only, or was it just whoever had the coin? When were chips used, or was it just coin and bills and chunks of precious metas used to bet with?
Anyway, just some odd questions.)) |

Well, given the setup of Bon Bon, I would highly doubt ivory dice would fly well, nor can I believe the ivory trade would exist except as a possible black market. However, for the real historic aspect I couldn't tell ya. I'll probably look into it a bit more, though. |

In real life at the time thousands of elephants were killed each year just to provide ivory for billiard balls, piano keyboards, cutlery handles ect.
"Dumb" versions of Bon Bon species such as equines do exist in the story so one assumes that elephants too too. Though of course the subject is not spoken of in the official story lines.
As to your question about dice Caroline, high quality dice would be made from ivory. The more common dice would be made from bone, the first plastic, which was called Bakelite was not invented until the 1900's. _________________ Terminus: http://forums.pleasurebonbon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=239198#239198
