“To answer your question, I use my powers for whoever hires me. Its nothing personal but this place needs a lot of money to run. So if someone needs to be taken out they call me up. Though I do have my own set of rules I follow by.”

Bryon watched as Allison walked past him.
"Survival, huh? She sounds a little like me. But... did she ever considered others as well?"

He turned back to look at Dailen.

"For those who hire you? I see... Then tell me, Dailen: What if the person that hired you was someone who secretly took pleasure in the misery of others?"

Dailen just shrugged.

“Not my concern, I just kill, get paid and thats it. There is only you and the Target. Everything else is irrelevant!”

Then he scowled.

“However, just like I said before, I have my own rules;

Rule one, Never target children
Rule two, Never target pregnant women
Rule three, Never target police unless they are corrupt
Rule four, Never target religious figures
Rule five, Never target peaceful organizations, such as Green Peace, some peaceful religious organization or anti government organization
Rule six, Never reveal who you really are unless it is necessary
Rule seven, Never get involved with law enforcement
And finally, rule eight, Never stay in one place to long, unless its one of your safe houses”

He looked at Byron.

“So far you and the others have seen my face and I’m going to ask you to keep it a secret.”

Leaf listened intently as Dailen explained his actions. The Meta's indifference towards the personality of whoever hired him was infuriating.

"I may keep a secret for you, but it doesn't condone your actions. If it's one thing I've learned from my years of wandering, it's that there is always two sides to a story."

He looked into the wolf's eyes. "Take for example, the people you've taken out in the past. Sometimes, they may have been actually innocent of the crime and were set up. Other times, they had no choice because of the situation they were dealt with. However...Instead of learning everything there is to know about the situation, you act as the judge and executioner without remorse!"

His brow creased in anger. "Those two... Nova and Obsidian. They are no different from one another. Sure, one saves people and the other terrorizes them. But they all share the same goal: To draw as much attention to themselves as possible!""

He turned his back to Dailen. Memories of his encounter with other Metas flashing across his mind. "For I know, all Metas care about is doing whatever it takes get what they want... Without anyone other than themselves to get in the way! In other words... They're nothing but avaricious, shallow bastards that care only about themselves!"

Anger flared up in him as Dailen grabbed Bryon and pushed him against the wall.

“Do you know why I do it? Because I’ve given up trying to be the nice guy, to do what’s right. My mother was killed in a crossfire between rival gangs and the police and my father was paralyzed from the neck down. If not for Glitches device he would not be walking right now. The law did nothing for me or my family. They didn’t even try and investigate what happened. My entire life was gone that day. GONE! You can’t imagine what its like to see your father just laying there, unable to move. I could do nothing at the time. It took years till I was strong enough to get those that hurt my family. And now... *Sniff* and now...”

Tears began to form in his eyes at the memory of that day. He let Bryon go and just walked out.

The few workers that were there watched him go. One of them helped Bryon up and shook his head.

“That was a low blow. Dailen is many things but self centered isn’t one of them. He saved my life. Some thugs were about ready to kill me when Dailen showed up. For some reason he save me. I’ve been helping him since. He helps his friends and comrades. Never blinking an eye. He would die for everyone one of us on this ship. Never forget that.”

With that the he went back to work.

Bryon grunted as Dailen pushed him against the wall. His anger dissipated as he heard the wolf recount the tragedy he and his family had suffered through.

After one of the workers helped him up and told the rabbit How Dailen rescued him, Bryon stared at where the wolf had left. The rabbit walked out of the engine room, lost in thought.

"Allison fought because she wants to survive and stop the virus. And Dailen.... He fought because he and his family suffered so much. And yet, I acted like a cold-hearted jerk."

He sighed to himself. "Maybe... Maybe I've been the one who was hurting everyone. I'm probably becoming the thing I hate. I better find Dailen and explain my actions."

He started his search by asking some crewmen where the wolf could have went. After they pointed him in the general direction, he ran off to find the wolf.

After leaving the engine room Dailen headed to the upper observation deck. It was the most secluded and quiet. He sat down and placed his head in his hands, trying hard to control his tears. The thoughts of that night continued to play in his head. It had been hard all around. His mothers death, father being hurt and then years later the virus that changed him. He looked at his hands. When he first drew his blades it hurt. The pain so great that he almost passed out. It still hurt every time he pulled out his blades but the pain wasn’t as bad.

‘I wish I could turn back the clock and stop the shooting. To go back and stop the virus. But that won’t work. Maybe father might find something. I hope he does. I’m getting really tired of this life I’m living right now.’

He sighed and leaned back. He looked out to see the sun slowly set.

Back in the Medical Bay

Doc continued to look at the data and just shook his head.

‘Allison’s blood is incredible. Hmm let me see here...’

He ran a computer simulation. Though he no longer had her blood he had enough data to work with.

‘I might have something. It may not be much but its a start. Lets see if this works.’

On Carls Island

Carl yawned and stretched. He looked at the time and got up to get something to eat. Leaving the blood sample in the test tube.

Allison had been silent. She was watching the clouds fly past when she heard Dailen. She just stood there and listened to him talk to himself. She sighed before talking "You know, I wish I could turn back time too. I would be able to save my family. But I'm dead, so what can I really do. You should be glad though that you have people that care about you." she said before looking at the clouds again.

Bryon wandered across the ship to find and apologize to Dailen. He searched for several minutes using the directions given by crewmen until he reached outside the doors to the upper observation deck. He was about to open the door when he heard Allison and Dailen's voices. He briefly listened to their conversation and backed away from the door.

"Both of them are inside that room. Maybe I should go in there and apologize..."

"I wouldn't suggest that," a harsh voice spoke inside his mind. "They're Metas! They'd sooner use you than talk!"

"Quiet! Just let me speak to them. I don't want to be an enemy."

"Hah! Don't bother with such nonsense! Remember the last time you tried to be friendly with them? That backstabber left us for dead!"

Bryon sat down on the floor, holding his forehead against the palm of his hand. "Shut up... Blast it, shut up!"

Numlock was surprised when Alice flew him indoors, her strength and agility were quite evident. That, and she was smarter than the average lawyer. She is cunning. Thinking many steps ahead like a game of chess. He would blush if he could. Not just because it had been a long time since a female had held him, but because being undead meant he couldn't provide the warmth a woman needs from a man. In his eyes, the nanobots displayed error messages, as passion and unfulfilled desire do not compute.

"Thank you, Ms Bakk." he said, giving a quick wink to her observation, and getting a good look at how she wore her hair. NumLock handed the cell phone back to Alice... Then his jaw dropped at the sight of the elemental meta's computer. Somehow, Riku had indeed gotten his paws on a secret government super-computer. It was an incredible machine. A computer, yes, but ovbiously far more advanced than the ones in the futurist magazines.

"Mr Edgewing, now how in the Matrix did you...? Nevermind! I honestly don't need to know. But if you've been using this for awhile, then you've disabled the tracking protocols. Damn, you're good. This'll actually make my part easier if it's compatible with my nano... Oh!"

Riku rolled his eyes, scoffing at the green fox's "child in a candy store" expression when the computer's holographic keyboard appeared underneath his paws.

"... okay... Come on, Glitch. Answer me, dammit. We need to get on board your magical mystery tour bus.", he said, seeing the Interweb in a whole new light.

"Oh, by the way. I named myself after the seemingly useless button on the keyboard. If you dial for help with it, using Morse Code, the cavalry will show up. Only use it if you think you're dying." There was the sound of a dial-tone, then a virtual raccoon dressed in a Superfur costume appeared on the super-computer's screen.

"Howdy, Glitch! Got room up there for a couple more metas?"

Glitch looked at NumLock and grinned.

“Well it depends really. I have to talk with Dailen first and get the go ahead with him. Give me a bit and I’ll get back to you.”

Glitch logged off and started to look for Dailen. After a bit he headed toward the upper observation deck when he saw Bryon sitting by the door.

“Hey there, you Ok?”

Bryon looked up to notice a raccoon looking down on him. He never seen this person before, but the uniform meant he was a crew member. For some reason, he could trust him.

"Well, folks. We have to wait for Dailen to decide. Ms Bakk, Dailen is the fur you're looking for. He's disciplined and deadly with these swords that pop out of his arms. It's probably not the only trick up his sleeve. I thought the scientist was the leader, but we'll find out sooner or later just who's who."

NumLock steps away from Riku's supercomputer, smiling. "Thank you for letting me use it, Mr Edgewing. That was a real treat."

His nanobots showed that his energy reserves were starting to get low. He'd ask Riku for snacks if it wasn't rude. And he'd just as well eat a street vermin or dive into a garbage can for biomass if it would'nt spoil his chances for just one date. Being an undead cyborg with constant craving was awful.

"So! Are any of ya'll hungry? I'll order out for delivery while we're waiting."

riku followed alice and numlock into his home and slamed the cargo door shut before walking up to his govement super computer.

and switched it on for numlock and bypassed the govement's lock codes's so he could use it to it's full adventage he growled before letting numlock do his thing.

":there it's all ya's do what ya want" riku then walked upto his huge streeo and put on his meatl music music

after numlock finshed riku stood up and looked at him "yeah whatever i dont want ya fucking symphoiny got it" riku wasnt use to furson's being polite to him and he walked towards a huge fride.

"if ya hungry iv'e got plenty what do ya both want?."

riku turned the telly on and as sure as he was there on the news was the reporter complaing about him destroying the city today and causeing millons of dollars worth of damges witch just made riku laugh

"Two minutes!" The pilot shouted back as the lone island drew closer into view.

Obsidian opened the door. The sun had since gone down, and the sky had turned dark. Obsidian sighed, and closed his eyes.

The hind descended towards the island, hovering over the ground. Obsidian hopped out, landing crouched, then standing up.

He watched as the hind pulled away, before turning around and starting towards the lab.

NumLock bit into the thick doughnut and washed it down with a big chug of Duff. He pointed at the personalized five pointed star badge on his coat. "It says, 'NumLock - High - Tech - Super - Hero'. I had it made in San Diego last year. I consider myself one of the good guys. I admit, I hate what you did downtown this morning, Mr Edgewing. You played pinball with the monster instead of destroying it as quickly and safely as possible. This planet is bad enough as it is for the normals to live as best as they can without random destruction. Besides, why would you want to rule over a city that's been reduced to rubble? I mean, no city, no music scene. Right?" He said, pointing to Riku's huge sound system, and taking another bite of the yummy cherry glazed doughnut.

Then he took a seat by the super-computer, eagerly waiting for Dailen's response. "Oh, by the way. I saw online that you won those headphones from that store near the mutant frog fight area. They were supposed to be impossible to win. And damn, I talk a lot."

Bryon looked into the raccoon's eyes and nodded slowly.
"A little while ago, I was in a room with other Metas discussing someone's missing blood sample... Obsidian's, I believe. Allison had fought against some creature that was made from her own sample. She killed it and took the creature to the engine room to burn it. As I observed the others, I felt myself getting so angry at them because of who they were."

He looked down as he continued. "I confronted Dailen to make him explain what he used his abilities for. His answers made me snap and I accused him of being self-centered and greedy. This enraged him to slam me against the wall and tell me what happened to him and his family..."

"I'm worried that I'm turning into a cold-hearted jerk because of what happened to me six years ago. I want to apologize to Dailen and explain to him why I acted out like that..."

You know I picture myself more in the villain side. I liberate more rich but dangerous metas that any other lawyer. This is kinda my thing. I got famous for case supposed to be a death cause. Some meta call me to go defend them in other states. Mundane judge, procurers and lawyers just aren't good enough. Just check on the net, I have a nasty reputation.

Glitch nodded and pats Bryon’s shoulder.

“We all have skeletons in our closets. I’ve done things that I’m not proud of. I’ve hurt a lot of people in the past and I now regret everything I did to them. I thought like you did after Dailen found me. Was I becoming a monster? Did I get joy into hurting others? You know what his answer was?”

The door suddenly opened and Dailen walked out and smiled at them.

“I told him that we’re all have a monster in us but its how we control it that makes us what we are. Do we allow it to control us or do we control it.”

He sat down beside Bryon.

“I’ll admit I’ve done some things that many would consider evil. Yet, no one ever considers what happens when I do these things. Crime has dropped in many of the areas I’ve been to. For every crime lord I kill, many innocents live peacefully.”

He looks at Bryon.

“If you want to talk about your experience six years ago then I’ll listen. So will Glitch, Doc, Yuri and almost everyone else here will listen. All you have to do is ask. Also I forgive you!”

Dailen looked at Glitch.

“Was there something you wanted to talk to me about?”

Glitch then explained what had happened with Numlock. Dailen thought for a bit and nodded.

“Alright, go let Doc know that we’re going to have guests and then go contact this Numlock. Once he tells you where he’s at we’ll send a Hind down to get them.”

Glitch nodded and stood up. He gave Bryon a quick squeeze on the shoulder and was off.

Dailen stood up and offered Bryon his hand.

At that moment Glitch ran and told Doc what was going on. Doc nodded and as Glitch walked out Doc started to get ready.

Glitch ran to his console and started to contact Numlock.

“Hey Numlock you there? Listen we have a green light. Just tell me where you’re at and I’ll send someone to get you.”

Bryon took Dailen's hand and was helped up by the wolf. "Thank you," the rabbit said quietly. "I'm not quite ready to discuss it yet, but when the time comes..."

As he said this, Dailen's words reverberated in his head. "I have to make sure that memory doesn't consume me. I can't become that jerk, Vince!"
