Happy birthday, Scorpia! We're both the same age now
There's an old tradition we have in my family (and maybe some other families have the same one, I don't know) where the birthday boy or girl gets spanked the same number as their age, plus "one to grow on". I don't really understand how corporal punishment fits into celebrating one's birth, but who am I to break tradition?

You know, Johnny, there are other adaptations of that tradition. Punching someone on the arm the required number of times, kissing them, giving them pennies or small candies. And since the birthday girl has expressed a profound dislike of pain, I think you should go for the final option. After all, this is about her having fun, not you.

| No birthday spankings in my family, we do have a bit of a tradition among the male members though... We call it the birthday beat down, one punch in the shoulder for every year, not to bad except the only ones large enough to go after me are two of my cousins both over 6ft tall and pushing 250lbs. I actually think we scared off one of my sisters boyfriends because of that. |

Hehe.. I dunno, I'm pretty sure the (friendly - don't have to hurt) swats and shoulder punches are indeed meant to be fun to everyone else, while the birthday girl (or guy) gets to be the center of attention.
Although I've never seen the kissing one... one kiss per year would be fairly nice with some of the ladies...

No silly traditions here. Can't say I'm envious of those who get spanked or punched, though. But, if anyone can tell me the factorial of 24, I'll see how many candies or kisses I may be due.

No traditions here, either, though some people I know do punch you in the arm for each year.

Call me a pansy (pun intended), but in my family, the tradition for the women is one rose for each year, the thorns having been removed. For the men, it's the same, only the thorns remain.
