Postal Warfare: Secretary For Hire (RP for Mayfield and I)

In a place like Bon Bon, with its self sufficient economy, lavish structures, and colorful citizens, one would not expect to see such a humble looking building standing proud, but simple. With its small latticework and ivy growing up its sides, the shale shingles that cover its roof, and even the large wooden door, it looked almost like it was of Italian origin. Inside however, was shabby, with a single desk with a door leading to the back, and papers strewn across the floor. It was dark, with a single lamp as a single figure, one could hear small scribbles were running across a paper. With his spectacles on that he used only when he wrote, he had to translate another letter and send it off for when the runner from the other town arrived. Today, a child was sending a letter to her momma about her vacation with her daddy (Upon their return will be met with a frying pan to the father's head). It only goes to show that after three years working The Brass Handle, his clientel had since doubled, and needed more organizing. Hence, outside the window, stood a sign with a neat curvy writing: Secretary for Hire.

Grace had been looking for other jobs, just something to pass the time. She had walked by a seemingly Italian building and noticed a sign "Another secretary, hmm oh well, it'll seem like just one job." she thought to herself before walking inside "Hello?" she called out to the darkness.

Hearing the jingle of the bell above the door, the figure looked up, his hat and scarf obscurring his face, except his eyes, which flickered violet in the darkness. "Hello, may I help you?", he removed his spectacles and put them away in his trouser pocket as he stood up. On his arm, a black patch around his arm was apparent, labeled: Runai, mailman of the Brass Handle. Same with the patch, his hat held an embroidered door knocker, the insignia to his whole business.

Grace observed the figure as he stood up, noticing every detail she could before speaking "Yes, I would like to know if the position for secretary is still available?"

Runai nodded simply and smiled. He never expected the position to be asked about so soon. Observing her build and body, it was obvious that she was capable of holding her own in confrontations, and during some work he would need help with. "Of course, I've been in need of some assistance keeping the papers and... uh....files in one place", he motioned to all around him, showing to her the full extent of his predicament. "Of course you'll get paid room and board, and there is a separate room on the second floor", he maintained his composure, but at the same time, wanted to make her want the job more.

"You'll sometimes need it I assure you", Runai sat back down and pulled out an armband bearing the black strap and gold doorknocker on it. "When you are on work or making stops in my absence, wear this, and we shall get along just fine", he motioned to the wall bearing the names of every citizen under his clientele. He eyed her for a moment and nodded looked out the window, "Can you start tomorrow?"

Runai nodded, then looked out the window once more. "It will be dark, so start tomorrow and I'll put you on the lowdown of how it works here", he spoke in a dignified, professional manner, just to get the formality out of the way.

Runai looked down to the ground, then back to Grace. "Nine in the morning sounds about right", looking at her with a impassive expression so as to not freak her out.

"Nine-hundred hours. I'll be here." Grace said before turning around and heading for the door.

"Strange, she acts military", he mused when she went out the door. "Oh well, another day I guess", he flipped the sign to close, and blew out the candle before disappearing into the tiny room and fell asleep in candlelight.

Grace arrived at the building at nine o' clock exactly. She walked inside ready to start.

Runai was found in the same way he was the other day when she came by the other day.

He looked up seeing the vixen eager to work. "I need to go, I'lll be back by late afternoon, you can start by filing all these papers".

He looked at her, pointing from the papers on the floor, to the rows of filing cabinets.

"Alright." Grace said as she started going around and picking the papers up off the floor, quickly glancing at them, then putting them in their rightful filing cabinet.

Runai went from house to house, building to building, providing the news throughout Bon Bon.

"Thank you again for choosing 'Brass Handle' for your postal needs", as he tipped his hat for the last customer, he slowly walked his way home.

It was this part about the work day that he enjoyed most, walking home while enjoying a bag of his favorite strawberry pastries. When he came back, he was astounded at the difference in the way the place looked. It went from a paper strewn disaster to an actual decent looking office.

"Wow, this is pretty good", he said and handed her the first day's pay"

All of the papers had been picked up and Grace was holding a quickly dwindling stack "I'm almost done. Just have a few more papers aaaand there. Finished." she said before turning around to face Runai, the office now void of any clutter.

Runai inspected the place and searched high and low throughout the office of anything that may have seemed out of place. "It seems everything is in order", he said and handed her a small enveloped containing the day's pay. He made sure that he would be able to pay her every day in this manner, "I hope you enjoy your first day's pay"

"Not at all, I do need occasional help delivering the mail, and the paperwork is always in need of tending", he replied and looked around. He could actually say he could see the floor.
