I think we need to look at this another way.

Let's say we go back in time with 1000 USD and exchange that to florins. How many florins would we get in return?

hehe, sounds like something from 1st grade math class lol

0.36 by 1000

I think it would be 360 florins if 0.36 is right.

So if 1000 divided by 360 equals 2.78 (3SF lol)

then I suppose the Single drink Will got was like 50 cents today. Huh

in 1895 a drink in a saloon was like a dime USD which compared to today more like 1USD

i saw a chart comparing the 1890's penny to today's penny and it was like worth 100times more back then

That sounds more like it. By today's standards, things were a great deal cheaper back in 1895.

We are definitely getting somewhere.

All we need to do now is determine a lower scale conversion.

1 florin = ??? USD
5 florin = ??? USD
10 florin = ??? USD
20 florin = ??? USD
and so forth.

Who's good with math?

The answer would be Max.
We should ask Ronald to post this up as a Sticky.

20=$56
10=$28
5=$14
1=$2.78

I knew Maths at A level would pay off one day!

But we filled it with some random things so the best idea would be that when Max does the conversions, Ronald sticks it up and gives credit to all who help.

Conversion rate for non standard pricing

A x 0.36 = B

A = Today's price in USD
B = 1895 price in florins

just to add a little more info in 1800 America bought the Louisiana Purchase this is how much they bought it for.....according to the wikipedia

The Louisiana Purchase (French: Vente de la Louisiane "Sale of Louisiana") was the acquisition by the United States of America of 828,800 square miles (2,147,000 km2) of the French territory Louisiana in 1803. The U.S. paid 60 million francs ($11,250,000) plus cancellation of debts worth 18 million francs ($3,750,000), a total cost of 15 million dollars for the Louisiana territory.

....ok just for any one that wants to go into that kind of detail for their rps not that every one will but

an Acre of undeveloped land today costs $30,000USD
in 1966 100 acres of undeveloped land could be sold for $3,000 USD plus an extra $3,000USD if it had a well on in

A house today costs to build (if on desirable land) $200USD per square foot
(if on not so desirable land) is $150USD per Square foot

so a 1,400 Square foot 3 bedroom home on desirable land would be $280,000USD today

(i got all this from my mommy who works in the mortgage business lol))

For arguements sake. Lets not forget the even protitutes were set in classes back then.

The lowest being street walkers who often did prostitution as a 2nd job to help make ends meat.

the middle class being ladys in brothels.

The upper class being personal mistresses to upper class gentelmen who paid for every thing that she would want and need (or as we in the modern age would call haveing a "suger daddy.")

But it does make seens with the ladys that are prositutes out side of the delight castel tend to want to work in it, even with it stringent application process, or trying to get one hundred heart charms that (if i rember correctly) cost 100 florins each (one hell of a tip.)
