Well as to interests I enjoy anime, martial arts(obvious huh),manga, manhwa(Korean comics),manhua(Chinese comics),martial arts movies, and sleep.I've trained extensively in various martial arts but use Wing Chun,Escrima, various silat and Tai Chi styles for my job.I tend to use a lot of different philosophies that I learned from different masters and their countries.

I have a question. Are there types of meditation or is it simply a person sit cross-legged, take deep breaths and clear his/her mind?

Yes, there are different forms of meditation. You already described one but did you know some of the people who perform it can be in that position for hours and even be struck with staff and not flinch? Some forms also include sitting beneath a waterfall in the winter to push the mind and body to its limits.

That's person must be in a deep concentration to not even flinch an attack. Why does waterfall or natures in general helps a person meditate?

Some forms of Buddhism(zen)and Shintoism believe that a person should reflect his role and in nature and his position in the universe. Some martial arts like ninjutsu or Shaolin temple fist believe that you are accountable for your actions and as such you need to know how your actions will affect the people and the world around you.

I kind of understand what you are saying.

One time I try to meditate, but I wonder if I even doing it right, especially with the breathing, since that's important when a person meditate and having to be able to clear my mind is hard because the minutes I'm drawing a blank, next thing a thought come through my mind and it kind of ruin the point of having my mind clear. Does this make sense to you, Mr. DesertWolf?

I think I do.It's hard to do when you first begin so here are a few pointers to help you.

1:Find a quiet area(it doesn't matter where)and sit down.

2:Cross your legs as much as you can and start to close your eyes.

3:As you eyes close, make sure your mind is like a black hole.Nothing can enter it and nothing can escape.

4:Breathing should be inhale through the nose (as much air as you can get),hold for a few seconds then exhale slowly through the mouth.

5:Repeat steps 1-4 and you'll be fine. Also don't worry if you can't do it on the first couple of tries it will take time to develop.

Ok. I'll make sure to remember those tips and do some meditation when I have the time.

Thank you very much.

I have another question.

Since you've been to Asia, Do you think you can tell us (or maybe me ^^!) a folklore story, or a legend you heard while you were over there?

One of my personal favorites is "the fox borrows the tiger's might"from China.

A tiger was hunting in the woods when he came across a fox.The fox realizing his situation yelled at the tiger and said"HOW DARE YOU TRY AND KILL ME!"The tiger was shocked and asked "what do you mean?"The fox raised his voice and arrogantly said"I was appointed by the Gods as the king of this forest,if you kill me you will anger the Gods."The tiger had begun to look suspicious so the fox declared"Let's have a test.""We will walk through the woods and you will see the animals bow before me in fear."The tiger agreed and walked behind the fox who was smiling just ahead.Sure enough the animals bowed in fear and the fox said"see I'm right.""now leave me be."The tiger had no choice but to agree and left the fox alone. The tiger failed to realize that the animals weren't scared of the fox they were scared of the tiger

It's a Chinese idiom when you say "a fox borrowing a tiger's might"you're saying that a person or group is using a powerful person's or group's power and influence to bully or take an advantage of another person or group.

Long ago lived a farmer named Lisheng.Lisheng had married a beautiful woman who was very willful. One day she had an idea that a coat made of fox fur would look beautiful on her and demanded Lisheng get one for her.Lisheng being poor had no money to buy one and so on his walk home through a forest his luck changed. He spotted a very beautiful fox and began to chase it.Soon Lisheng caught the vixen by her tail and said "Let's make an agreement,If you allow me to take a piece of your fur I'll let you go."Shocked at the demand, the fox calmly told the man"my dear,if you let go of me,I'll pull my skin off for you."Delighted at what heard Lisheng let the vixen go and waited for her to remove her fur.Instead the vixen had simply run off back into the woods never to be seen again.

Yes it is a defensive martial art as it focuses on moving away from the attacker and uses his own momentum against himself.

If I had known everyone here was so intrested in the martial arts, I would have made a thread like this long ago. Though, to be fair, I could only have talked about the martial arts I've studied personally and I'm sure the information I could have given would not have been this in depth. I salute you, DesertWolf.
