Bah, after going 22 and a half days without a computer, it feels GREAT to be back!!

Back on August 1st, we had a thunderstorm come through our area sometime early in the morning or something....and I slept right through it, never knew it was there. I woke up that moning and found the clocks on my and my mom's alarm clocks were flashing and the one on the stove was flashing, so I figured we lost power sometime during the night. I reset them as normal and watched a little tv. I went to get on the computer and after turning on the router and modem, I went to turn on my laptop...and it wouldn't turn on. The router and modem were acting fine, turned on normally. I figured something was up and I had a feeling Dell tech support wouldn't do squat about it, so I didn't bother calling them.

I went downstairs and turned the tv back on, putting on the Olympics. When mom called me that day I told her about it and...gods she got so fricking pissy! Saying she wouldn't be able to get a new one, she didn't have the money at the moment and I'd have to deal with it. Seriously? I didn't need that bitchiness from her, I was just letting her know. She called back a little while later asking 'is this the same thing that happened when the hard drive went?' to which I said 'no'. The person she was working with that day at the one ambulance squad has a friend who works with computers. Said partner said his friend could take a look at it and it would only cost mom a case of beer, to which she gladly agreed to. She took my laptop and the case of beer in with her and he had it for a while. The one day he had it, mom called me up and asked 'is there any chance the laptop could have been dropped?' and I was like 'no...the laptop has never left the top of the desk except if I cleaned the desktop.' To which she said that they had found a crack in the screen.

Days passed and there wasn't much news on it, so I spent my days watching the Olympics, Looney Tunes, and other things I liked. One day she called me and said that there was nothing her partner's friend could do, it was totally fried, bad enough the screen was indeed cracked. She then said that he would be willing to look at her laptop and clear the virus off of it. She took it in for him a couple days later, gave it to her partner who gave it to his friend and he had the virus cleared off it in 20 minutes. She had called Dell though beforehand and mentioned what was going on. It was a virus protection THEY had put on the laptop the last time she had a problem and they said it was really good. Apparentlly it wasn't if it got majorly locked up with a virus to the point where the mouse wouldn't even move on it. They wouldn't do anything about it, which pissed mom off to no end, so we are officially DONE with Dell and their computers.

On August 23rd, we went up to Staples as they were having a back to school sale and I got the Toshiba Satelite laptop on sale. We also got the Norton 360 for it. All together it was only 445 bucks...which is better than what mom payed for my Dell. As we walked out of the store and got in the car, the box with my new laptop in it on my lap, I thanked her and she was like 'it was a christmas gift and needed to be replaced'. The Dell had been gotten back in December of 2010 and as an early christmas gift that year. I set the new laptop up that night and have been loving it ever since!

Mom got her laptop back and it's working like normal. Now she can be on her laptop downstairs and I can be on mine up in the computer room! I have sanity again!! Mom has been on the Toshiba a couple of times and likes it as well, but she's glad to have her laptop back because it has all her pictures and music on it. Now that I have internet back, I can get back into my little worlds of role play! Yay!

*hugs everyone and passes out cookies*

Welcome back. Oddly enough, I had a storm blow through here a few weeks ago. I turned on my PC, and I find out that all my USB ports became inoperable. Meaning no screen, no keyboard, no mouse, nothing. Pretty much that means that it is a motherboard failure. Even more aggravating is the fact I had replaced the power supply twice, added a brand new graphics card, and installed 4 Gigabytes worth of RAM sticks into the system. That does'nt even include the programs and files that are of sentimental value.

I have a Toshiba laptop, a Qosmio, to be exact. It's a pretty good little thing and after going through a rough patch with Virus Protection software, initially, I now have Microsoft Essentials and have yet to have any problems with it.

That's not to say I'm willing to plunge headlong into the ethers of the net and browse the virus riddled corners of pirated this and porn that. Half of a working virus protection software is your own common sense to stay the fuck away from the plagued nooks of the internet.

Glad to have you back, Aria. Look forward to RPing with you some more. Wink

My laptop wouldn't even turn on. I pressed the button several times and it wouldn't come on, I even held it down for a few seconds. Heck, it was even plugged into a surge protector and yet it took the hit and everything else was working fine. Oh well, it happens.

I am loving the Toshiba though and with Staples so close, if anything happens, we can take it up there and not go very far. Plus, don't have to worry about calling Tech support and wondering who we're going to get and if we'll even understand them XD

I've nothing against the people that work for tech support at Dell or any other company that doesn't speak English very well, but when I can hardly understand what someone is saying and have to go 'could you please repeat that, but a little slower as I didn't quite understand it' every few minutes...it starts to grind your nerves a little bit.

Yea, great to be back. I'll post sometime soon, so no worries.
