You always notice the girls in Bon Bon being the slim type.

So where are the pleasantly plump girls?

Perhaps I can shed a little light. With some light reading and a lot of digging around I've found that by 1895 many women had joined gymnasiums and were exercising more which also lead into more men selecting their mates from said places more often than not.

Some women also wear extremely tight corsets in that era which were uncomfortable to wear.

With all this input, We should also ask the ladies on this site.

Particularly, The artist herself.

What do you think, Ladies?

why don't make a few sketches of thin, normal, plump, fat and muscled girls in bonbon in the same outfit.

That is true. Every man and woman is beautiful in their own way.

All this being said:

Where are the ladies?, Have none of them seen this thread?

Or are they embarrassed at the thought of being plumper than normal?

Guess you gotta wait for a woman's approach to this question so far. They appear from time to time, but life's keeping them busy.

Only logical reason I can think of is because of the era, women would be wearing a corset more often then not.

((Triadenforcer,

Since I was called out on this, consider yourself "lucky". I don't reply to a lot of posts, as, after reading them, I don't feel like echoing comments already made, the point has been discussed to death, I just don't care, I have real-world stuff I need to do and don't have the time to post, or any other myriad of reasons as to why I decided not to post. Case-and-point, right now, I really need to go to the grocery story, and drop off a duvet to the dry cleaners. But... instead, I'm delaying my chores to reply to you. Lucky you.

Anyway, as to your question, It's a fantasy world. Therefore, to me, I'm kinda expecting everything to be maximized and otherworldly beautiful. I expect the men of the world to be hauntingly handsome while the women are sinfully sensual. Is that realistic? No. But it is what I expect from a fairy-tale set story. It would be the same that, if I'm going to an action movie, I expect stuff to blow up at some point. It's why I enjoyed "Tucker and Dale vs EVIL" so much. It took the whole "Hillbilly-Crazy-Folk-Terrorizes-College-Frat-Party" genre and just goes with it. Anyway, while, in some ways, such perfect portrayals of men and women are so optimized as to be nearly impossible... it can also cultivate a sense of optimism and opportunity, or give someone a picture of a goal they'd like to personally achieve.

In either case, I really don't care. If I don't like the art, I won't bother with it. Other stories / comics I read have chibi-characters, others have older characters. Tales have thin people, and tall people. Plump people, and skeleton-thin people. For example, I enjoy mongo-bongo's sexy, 3d art... but mongo-bongo is about the only 3d artist I actually enjoy. I used to like the art of Deuce's World... but it because repetitive, and not terribly fun for me, so I quit reading it. And, I like how Vanessa does her art. If all her characters were more on the plump side, I'd still read it, as I enjoy how she draws and how she writes.

Anyway, for that matter, why not mention all of the... impossible fur-colorings that Vanessa has used for her characters. A purple raccoon... a green fox... or hybrid/chimeric creature-blends that she has used as well. Why not bring up where all the normal-fur-toned people are? Or, being that the story is set in a parallel 1890s, why not use all the steam-punk-science-fiction stuff as well?

To me, Vanessa has decided to go with a glamorous, sexualized, lithe-tall look for pretty much all of her girls. She then separates them out by giving them different hair colors, different costumes, different jobs, different "voices". Shoot, maybe Vanessa just finds tall, hourglass-figured women to be sexy and beautiful and just draws them as such. She wants to share with her audience the things she enjoys. If nothing else, these are her stories that's she's created... so... it fits to think that she's going to want to draw/write a story she likes drawing / writing and design it in such a way that she'll enjoy it. To use a different example, if Vanessa were an interior designer, she'd have her home look the way she wanted it to look... color schemes, pillows, curtains, floorings, etc.

To use a self example, I painted my Warhammer 40, Valhalan miniatures a steel-grey, to make them look like Germans in Russia in WWI or WWII, because I like the military-but-exhausted look it gives them. I use the Valhalan miniatures as they have a ton of gear on them, which gives them a feel of being on campaign. I paint their boots to look like cracked, unpolished, black-leather, as it makes it look like they haven't been back home in months, if not years. I did it this way, because it makes me smile when I pull them out and look at them. It could be the same for Vanessa. Her girls look the way they do, as she likes drawing them that way.

Now, I specifically asked for Caroline to be short, petite, and small chested, as that is how I look in the real-world. In fact, I tend to have the lion's share of my characters be me, just in a fantastic setting. It's also why I play humans about 99.997% of the time in rpgs. I'm a human, and therefore I'm kinda partial to us. Since I'm short and petite, I'm kinda partial to that as well.

So... there. I hope that answers your question. Or at least gives you something to think about. ))
